General Stuff / Re: Possible Internship, I am SO excited !
« on: July 13, 2011, 05:54:08 PM »
Thanks Mom and PH, I appreciate the responses.  I feel like a kid getting ready for Xmas.  ;D

I know, I know... Lol      you all enlighten me ( and all of us students) to the grind, dissillusionment, anger and frustration that often comes with being a para. But for the moment I am all motivated and happy about this chance.

I will keep you posted later on when I see what's gonna happen with this deal.  :)

I  kind of forgot to mention part of the reason that I am so stoked over this. For a town of close to 50,000 people, I have had a paralegal here tell me that almost none of the law firms here actually use paralegals. I believe she said that there were maybe 5 or 6 para's that she knew of in this whole area. I don't know if they get by with "legal secretaries" or these one and two attorney firms do their own para stuff, or what the deal is on that... But the odds were against me even getting an actual para on the line when I made this call out of the blue. Maybe the Gods were pulling for me on that one.  :)

General Stuff / Possible Internship, I am SO excited !

I am about halfway through my paralegal degree. A couple of days ago, out of the blue, I called and asked to speak to a paralegal at one of the more prominent ( but very small) firms in this area. ( A large firm in this area would be considered 4 or more attorneys   :o  so...LOL  BUT they are well known here) I had some school and employment related questions for her and then we got to talking about a possible internship, when I get closer to graduation. I am really excited because, while I make very good grades and all, my previous work history is not impressive and nowhere related to the law in any way. This paralegal advised me to get back in touch with her when I get closer to graduation and then take it from there. I  so badly just want a chance at doing anything in the field I will volunteer as much time as possible there. I don't mind offering to work for free just to get my foot in the paralegal door. If I can I will keep my full time job and intern on my days off as well as do some of the work from home. Naturally, if they offer a paid internship, that actually pays something, then I would be all over that. Needless to say I am pretty excited about this opportunity and can only hope that it doesn't fall through later.  :)

P.S. I am just sitting here suddenly remembering  PH's post about the interns.   :-X   I swear and be damned miss PH, that I WOULD be a motivated and attentive and thankful and far from lazy intern that actually works !!  ;D

Re: Grumpy's pic # 4

I do believe that piece of drain pipe attached to that truck door is for spitting. The feller ( could be a lady though  :-X)  can utilize that as (s)he is motoring down the road to avoid the spit down the side of the truck syndrome that is all too prevelant in certain parts of the country.

Luckily for this guy it is elegant as well as functional.  ;D

Two thumbs up Grumpy !  I have to say, as a paralegal student, what a disheartening type of thing to read from an attorney. On the other hand it's good to have all of this background info, and forewarning, before actually getting into the field. What a rude awakening it would be to graduate school, and skip off to my first day of work dreaming of smiling and happy lawyers just waiting to take me into the fold and kindly teach me as I go. Lol

I want to be excited and motivated when I start this profession. I don't feel like the negative stories hurt that necessarily, I look at it as a kind of vaccine against hurt and disillusionment, if that makes any sense ?

I am really thankful for PH and places like this. I think of it as OJT before I actually start the job. Kudos to all of you regulars here for sharing your stories and experiences with us new people.

General Stuff / Re: How did you find Paralegal Hell?

You're most welcome PH. I never fail to find something of interest in here. I do like a couple of the sites that are technically oriented; sometimes just because I feel like, as a student, I should be checking them out to learn all that I can about various aspects of this field. This place is where I come to learn AND to enjoy myself though.  :)

I did the same thing as Grumpy, " Google search for paralegal blogs."  This is the only one I care about getting to regularly though.
