What my boss did today... / Lawyers are Psychopaths - Proof!
« on: November 14, 2012, 09:08:56 AM »
A study was just published about the top professions linked to Psychopathic Personality Disorder.  Lawyers were #2 behind CEO's.  Are any of us truly surprised?

Yes, I'm a recovering Alkie, but I found this highly amusing.  A wine based on The Princess Bride:

Enjoy!

General Stuff / If I Weren't A Paralegal, I would be...

moving antique furniture, or handling fragile objects.

Because I used to work for a museum handling their old stuff.  That was my last job before falling into Da Law, which I did quite by accident.

So, if any of you weren't Paralegals, what do you think you would you be doing?

Workin' for the Weekend / New Food/Cooking Blog Name Ideas
« on: November 16, 2011, 03:07:22 PM »
I'm planning to start a food blog of some sort.  Wanted to stick with my current theme and call it "The Grumpy Cook" but 2 other people beat me to it:

and

Any ideas?  "Grumpy Cooks and Eats" is the best I can come up with, but it sounds too clunky, and still infringes on the other two.

What my boss did today... / Must... not... murder... lawyers...

So we get a filing in a Court that requires electronic filing.  Attorney gets it in the morning (without telling me), fiddles with it all day, then about 6:00 asks me to get it filed.  I ask for Attorney's login information for that filing system.  "Oh, noone here has a login, can you call the Court and get it set up tonight?  The deadline is today."

AAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

 :o >:( :'(

Let's just say I had a heart-to-heart with that associate about how to tell time, and the need to tell others about their deadlines as soon as THEY find out about said deadline.  Plus a terse reminder that Clerk's Offices are NOT 24-hour operations in our state.

Then I made said associate call co-counsel and tell them we would not be able to make the filing deadline and WHY.  While I stood in the doorway glaring.

This morning, the managing partner met with Associate, who now looks scared.  Makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.   ;D

Workin' for the Weekend / Vacation Planning

I have a week off coming up around New Year's.  Looking for suggestions what to do with it, although it needs to be within reason since I already did a long-distance tropical paradise getaway earlier in the year.  More of a low-cost road-trip thing, but winter-friendly.  I was thinking maybe New Orleans, rent a car and drive up the Mighty Mississippi to Memphis.  Thoughts?

A Judge in Delaware went crazy on counsel for acting like children.  We've all wanted to do this to our Attorneys at one point or another.
