My first post.Ever.

So when Paralegal Hell approached me and asked me to fill in for her on her blog while she went on a much-needed vacation, I jumped all over it. First of all, I felt honored that she asked me even though I think she is just trying to recruit me to blog (which she later confirmed!). Second, I knew she needed a break. After all, she just ended her career on the Death Star and needed some time off. Finally, I thought that it would be an interesting learning experience. I think I am a terminal student. I thrive when I am learning.
Now, being a paralegal I decided that I needed to research how to blog. After all, when you need to know a court rule you don’t just guess, right? We are paralegals. We research!
A simple Google search (“How to Blog”) and I was on my way. The first hit I saw talked about making money while blogging. Oh yeah! I am on it. Right away, I noticed was that there were advertisements all over the page. Hmmm…is that how I make money, by being a billboard? The other advice was to not give up because potential employers will consider my blogging an asset. Really? Me talking about how horrible outside counsel is will make me an asset? Well, if all I have to do is complain to get ahead in the business then look out world. Obviously, that site was not helpful.

The next site talked about blogging effectively. Okay, I will look into this one. My biggest fear is that I will do a horrible job and PH will lose all of her readers. Yikes! This blog said that effective blogging can build networks. I would have to agree. I have met some pretty great paralegals by simply reading and commenting on blogs – and participating in the Paralegal Hell Purgatory Panel. One of the other ideas that this site gave me was to “Research.” It sounds so simple. But I love to research so maybe this site is on to something. Then I read that I am supposed to write less. Uh oh. Looking back over this post I can already tell that I have violated that rule. I am also supposed to make only one point per paragraph. I seem to recall my high school English teacher (we called him Smiley because he was always frowning) say something about that as well. Of course, Smiley also always said that dogs get mad and people get angry so maybe he was not always the best for advice.

The final site I looked at was supposed to be full of blogging tips for beginners. As we like to say in the legal world, this site was supposed to be “on point.” Unfortunately this site was more about linking to other articles so I scrolled through pretty quickly until I saw one on pop culture quotes to inspire. But I did not like any of the quotes that they provided and none inspired me.

I finally gave up on the sites because they were not helping me and one of the Real Housewives shows was getting ready to start. I mean, really people, we have to have priorities.

The bottom line is that I will try and offer my perspective on being a paralegal in the corporate world  in my own way. If you like it, great! Please continue to read and comment. If you don’t like my posts, well PH will be back soon (although I suspect that she is peeking at this blog while sitting on a sandy beach or at a cabana bar somewhere). Come back then. Either way – thanks for reading.
Are you are now wondering about my favorite movie quote? Pretty dorky but it is “Shh…do you smell that?” from Ghostbusters (the good one – not the sequel). I would love to know yours.

I think you’re doing just fine. My favorite movie line was when some cop asks Cheech for his license and Cheech says ” it’s on the bumper man… !”

Doing great.  Always write from your own experience and you’ll do fine.

You’re doing great! And yes, we have priorities…the RHONYC reunion show last night was a beatdown.  Reminds me of what it was like when the secretaries get a burr up their ass about something.

I think they teach a class in law school on “how to really get to your paralegal and/or your secretary on a daily basis”.  Then they teach them this quote so they know what to strive for.
