Sick and Tired

Is it just me, or has this been the longest week ever in the history of the world?

I am completely unmotivated to do anything today.  Oh, I have work to do, but I am just so sick and tired of our clients right now that I needed to vent.

OK- I know that the clients that walk through our door are not always the most responsible people on the planet.  That is what has them walking through our doors in the first place, however, there are certain things that THEY need to do in order for me to file their case.

Whenever someone comes back with the required paperwork, the Paralegals go over it with the clients before they leave the office.  Why?  Because 90% of the paperwork is blank.  We have to ask them the questions and fill it out with them standing there, otherwise we would not have the important information to proceed.

Today, I was the first one in the office (as usual) and a client had slipped their “completed” paperwork under the door.  I said a quick prayer, grabbed the envelope and went into my office.

Well, apparently I did not pray loud enough because this client has made history in our office.  He now holds the title of the crappiest job of filling out paperwork.  Congrats!

The only thing filled out was his name, address, and phone numbers.  Our packet is  36 pages, plus we require additional documents like Tax Returns, Creditor bills (if any) and 6 months worth of pay stubs.  Plus, PAYMENT.  This envelope had none of this.

Now, I have to call this jackass, have him complete the paperwork, hound him for the documents and fight with him for payment.  How do I know I will have to fight him for these things?  Because it happens every damn time.

All this does it bog me down, and piss me off.

If you ever file Bankruptcy, for the love of God, FILL OUT YOUR DAMN PAPERWORK.  This is not my job.  You got yourself into this situation.  Help Me To Help You, Dammit!

When I used to work for a creditor firm, those clients weren’t much better. You’d be amazed how many banks and mortgage companies don’t seem to grasp that we couldn’t prove a deficiency without a basic payment history. Or how many of them maintain horrendously lousy records. If the bank ever says you are late, always, always, ALWAYS demand a payment history from them and check your own records against it. Probably half the motions for relief I ever filed ended up denied because our client misplaced funds.

I kind of feel the only thing worse than lazy clients are no clients, and on that same note, I kind of feel like I would be better off not having lazy clients to worry about!

Well. No clients do suck, but when you are beat down my the clients I have on a daily basis, maybe you would have more empathy.
Good for you that you have great clients. That makes your job easier and something you look forward to everyday. That is something I hope will come my way soon.
